Parking:
Library parking is available in the Municipal Garage at Spring Street located adjacent to the library. Drivers may enter the lot from Spring Street or through the library access driveway (Sylvia Beach Way) off Wiggins Street. Library card holders can have their tickets validated for up to 2-hours of free parking when they visit the library. Other visitors receive 30 minutes of free parking if they use the Municipal Garage at Spring Street. Public Transportation:
The library is also accessible via public transportation. By rail take the NJ Transit Northeast Corridor Line to Princeton Junction and transfer to the Princeton Local (a.k.a. “The Dinky”). NJ Transit Bus Services 605 and 606 and the freeB Jitney provide regular service between Princeton Borough and Princeton Township.

Today we held our open source software in libraries webinar for a great group of SLA Members. One question asked was if we could install Chrome on Windows 8 apparently you can, but it might be terribly easy! Here’s an article/video I found to answer that question.

The Program: Determining and Reinforcing Organizational Branding for Libraries in Culture, Communications, and Social Media Efforts

John LeMasney will lead a discussion aimed at enhancing our awareness of how our libraries are interpreted as individual organizations and resources.  Does it match our intended mission and outcomes? We can use cultural elements, communication methods, social media efforts, and interpersonal interactions with stakeholders to emphasize and underline what our libraries are and why they provide valuable benefits to their unique patronage. Please join us to add to this valuable discussion on brand in libraries! 

About the Speaker: John LeMasney is a father who lives and works in and around Princeton, New Jersey.  Currently the Manager of Educational Technology Training and Outreach at Princeton University, John worked from 1998-2011 at Rider University, in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, as the Manager of Technology Training.  He was recently awarded a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership with honors from Rider University, and he also earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture with honors from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.  John is a designer, artist, writer, poet, technologist, consultant, open web advocate, and open source evangelist. PrincetonUniversity’s Campus Club is located at 5 Prospect Ave., Princeton, New Jersey08540-5299, at the corner of Prospect Ave. and Washington Road, across from The Woodrow Wilson School.

From Rte. 1, go west on Washington Road (County Road 526), into Princeton.  You will pass a stop light at Faculty Road.  The second stop light is at Ivy Lane, which goes off only to the right.  The third stop light is Prospect Avenue, which also goes off only to the right.

From Nassau St. in Princeton, turn east, onto Washington Road.  Pass Williams Street, which goes off only to the left.  Prospect Avenue is the next street, which also goes off only to the left.

You can park for free in University parking lots after 5:00 p.m.  University lots are located on Ivy Lane and Williams Street.  Metered parking is also available on Prospect Avenue.

The library community is a buzz about open source software (OSS). What will it mean to our libraries? Would it help if you knew that it is not just about programming, but a philosophy? This class will give you the facts about OSS by not only introducing you to what OSS is and what it means for libraries, but also by providing attendees with a toolbox of OSS products to use in their libraries.

Nicole C. Engard is the Vice President of Education at ByWater Solutions. Her primary role at ByWater Solutions is to educate librarians about open source software with a focus on the Koha ILS. In addition to her daily responsibilities, Nicole keeps the library community up to date on web technologies via her website “What I Learned Today…” (www.web2learning.net) and volunteers as a community moderator on opensource.com. In 2007, Nicole was named one of Library Journal’s Movers & Shakers and in 2009 she was the editor of “Library Mashups,” a book published by Information Today, Inc. and in 2010 she authored “Practical Open Source Software for Libraries,” a book published by Chandos Inc. and in 2012 the second edition of “The Accidental Systems Librarian” which she worked on with Rachel Singer Gordon was released.
